Scholarships and Funding

To help foster study and research in the arts of Africa, Oceania and the Americas, the Sainsbury Research Unit offers funding support for its academic programmes.  These include scholarships for our taught Masters course and for our doctoral research students, such as the Robert Sainsbury Scholarship (a full fees award with living stipend).

SRU candidates are strongly supported in applications for AHRC CHASE funding, UEA and other grants and have very high success rates.  UK/EU candidates who wish to be considered for any funding must apply to the SRU by the 1 March for the MA course. For the Phd programme the deadline for consideration for funding from AHRC and UEA sources is 13th January and for SRU support funding is 1st March in the year of application.

All MA students receive a travel allowance to cover visits to museums, exhibitions and conferences as part of the course. All doctoral students receive a bursary to support fieldwork, library and/or collections research and conference attendance.

Our awards are evaluated on the basis of applications and merit, and all outcomes are decided by committee.  At present, we do not consider funding support for students or projects not associated with SRU-based MA, doctoral research or visiting fellowship programmes.  For up-to-date guidance regarding these programmes, funding competitions, and application deadlines, please contact the Admissions Secretary.
