Andean ethnohistory and archaeology: case studies from highland Peru
A workshop
at the Sainsbury Research Unit
(University of East Anglia, Norwich, UK)
24 November 2010
This workshop considered intersections between ethnohistory and archaeology in the Andes, especially the roles that early historical documents have in enriching the study of the archaeological record. Themes included Andean ceremonialism, political authority and community organization. With participants from the USA, Italy and Peru, there was a special focus on northern Peru and highland transformations in Ancash during the 16th and 17th centuries. Each presentation was followed by discussions, based on the talk and readings made available before the session.
